BRANDS SUPERPRIX
5 July 2009
The Brands Hatch Superprix over the fiirst weekend of July proved a fantastic weekend for Connaught.
Not only did we win the Historic F1 race with Rowland Kinch in the Arrows A4, but Doug Hart gave us our first outright win in the first Orwell race.
Somewhat helped by Richard Piper's lack of fuel pressure, Hart had a good lead by threequarter distance and went on to win by 26sec. Kevin Wilkins backed up his good CER results with a fine third in Class D.
In the ever popular Guards Sports Car race, Matthew Newman was holding a good seventh overall in the Lotus 23 with one lap to go after 40 minutes racing, only to lose out when he spun off with a puncture going on to the GP loop.
The second Orwell race was cancelled after two starts. First, Mahn's BRM crashed at Clearways than after a long break to repair the tyre walls, Hart crashed at the restart when a rear tyre came off at Westfield. Unbeknown to him and the team, Doug had been hit by the BRM, allowing the tyre to become pushed off the rim. At this point the race was finally abandoned.
Many thanks to all our customers who made it a great weekend.
