Double Champion

7 September 2013

Over the weekend of the 7/8 Sept, the Irish Hillclimb championship moved to Donegal.
Competitors awoke on Saturday to appalling conditions. With standing water on the hill, most were very aware of what could happen if you put a foot wrong. For Simon McKinley, having already secured the  Championship  title for 2013 in the Lant-Warrior, things could not have been better.  A class win both days and bad scores for others could see Simon win the Unlimted Saloon & Sportcar Class, together along with the overall Saloon class win. At the wheel of the family Escort 2.4 Warrior engined car, the talanted Dubliner managed it all and became the first person ever to do so.
So for 2013 his silverware list is ;
Overall Champion
Class winner Unlimited Saloon & Sports cars
Overall winner Saloon Cars.

He didn't win the single seater Class 7, but as far as Connaught was concerned that was still kept in house, being won by Dermot Nolan in his 2-litre Reynard-Peugeot 913

Well done to all - another great year!
