London to Cape Town 2012

After 29 days in all types of weather and road conditions, father and son team Mike and Ben Dawson fulfilled a dream as they completed the 14,000 mile trip of a lifetime on the epic London to Cape Town World Cup Rally. Having been well in contention in the early stages, they suffered a strut failure 1500 miles from civilisation! But after a few phone calls and a two-day wait the new parts were fitted and they were on their way. Two day and night drives got them back amongst the 40-car pack and their great drive in the Mk2 Escort was eventually rewarded with the 'True Grit' cup and a finish position of 29th overall.
